Portable Equipment in Hazardous Areas
All electrical powered equipment in hazardous areas must be certified. This demand applies to all portable instrumentation and lighting, which includes multi-meters, 2-way radios, gas detection equipment, torches etc.
Hazardous Area Portable equipment must have routine inspections.
If not certified, portable equipement can only be used with a hot work certificate (HWC) issued along with, or as part of, a permit to work. Conditions of use laid down in the HWC must be strictly adhered too during work periods.
Portable hand-lamp lighting is generally operated from a dedicated 25V supply.
